Virginia QTL Schools Get Marks of Distinction
Several Virginia Title I schools that have sent teachers through QTL have earned the designation of "Distinguished Title I School". Botetourt County's Breckinridge, Buchanan and Troutville Elementaries, and Lee County's Elydale, Rose Hill and St. Charles Elementaries all made the cut. In addition, the Charles City School System was named a "Distinguished Title I School Division."
QTL Starts Georgia Project
QTL is being implemented for the entire staff of Thomson Middle School in Centerville, Georgia during Summer 2006. The four cycles scheduled there are part of QTL's first partnership in Georgia. The first sessions were held the second week of May - after end-of-course testing was completed. QTL Director of Programs Janice Johnson is already praising the school. "Teachers have been very cooperative and engaged," she says, "even though their students are just down the hall."
Charles City County System Joins QTL Family
The Charles City County school system in Virginia is the newest member of the QTL Family. Ten administrators, including all principals, assistant principals, and district administrators attended a 2-day Instructional Leadership workshop to get a basic understanding of the QTL model and how to support it in their schools.
This summer Charles City County’s teaching staff will go through the QTL program. They will follow that with implementation of the Whole Faculty Study Groups phase in the fall. Superintendent Dr. Janet Crawley says the QTL program as a way to get teachers to the same page. “I see the QTL program as a way to bring our teachers together for a common understanding of research-proven instructional strategies. We see this program as being very strong in our district.”
Johnston School Showcases Collaborative Projects
Teachers at a Johnston County, NC school showcased an impressive variety of collaborative projects during an after-school meeting. The school received a federal technology demonstration grant through NCTA this year. The entire faculty went through QTL™ to prepare to use new technology that's on the way. Perquimans Administrator Wins Brumback Award
Perquimans County Schools technology director Victor Eure is this year's winner of the Elsie L. Brumback Award from The Centers for Quality Teaching and Learning. The results were announced during the opening session of the NCaect Conference in Charlotte. Eure stood out in a strong field of nominees. Find out why.

Perquimans County Schools - an early adopter of the QTL™ program when it was introduced five years ago - is in the national spotlight as the winner of CoSN's 2006 Team Award. Botetourt County Center Enters Third Year
The Botetourt County Center for Quality Teaching and Learning is now entering its third year of district-wide implementation of the QTL™ program! Some 85 percent of the teachers in the district have gone through the program during the past two years. The remainder are scheduled to participate this spring and summer. QTL™ Instructor Trevor Ruble says administrators' support for teachers has been terrific. "Every principal has bought into QTL, has gone to QTL." QTL Instructors Plan Busy 2006
QTL instructors from The Centers for Quality Teaching and Learning and several partner districts met in Raleigh to get up to speed on program changes, to share successful strategies, and to plan for the year ahead. 2006 will be a busy time, with staff working on further expansion into Arkansas as well as new sites in North Carolina, and continued work in Virginia, Mississippi and Georgia.
